I have lived in Italy and Egypt. Both have efficient rail systems with the Italians still being the most successful in regard to tracking and adhering to time schedules. I agree that a coast to coast rail service is counter productive especially when the trend is to reduce automobiles and begin the introduction of necessary federal restrictions against long distance travel. Tomorrows society in the U.S. will need to have a more localized point of convergence, with the people concentrating on issues related to local day to day affairs within their own community.

Tropical Storm May Halt Gulf Oil Spill Response

Retrospective on the hurricane season. It may all pan out in the wash according to the president in his interview with Larry King on June fourth. Reuters had reported that the president feels that "a powerful hurricane could help to break up the oil slick". According to the president , "it turns out that a big powerful hurricane, ironically is probably less damaging with respect to the oil spill because it just disperses everything and the oil breaks up and disperses more quickly".

The U.S. Weather service is predicting that the Atlantic hurricane season will be more active than usual with at least five Katrina level storms. NOAA official tracking current weather in the gulf area stated yesterday (6/24) that their experts are concerned about how high winds and changing ocean currents may impact the oil slick. CBS Evening News with Katie Couric reports that a major hurricane surge could drive the oil inland destroying wetlands and polluting potable water supplies. Some experts feel that there is a possibility that a hurrican might dilute the oil however, they point out that existing containment booms will be destroyed and all cleanup vessels and people will need to be evacuated halting the containment effort.

The tape confirms testimony by Blagojevich's chief of staff, John Harris who had stated that he was in contact with the presidents top aide, Rahm Emanuel concerning Blagojevich's appointment of an interim senator to replace the newly elected president. Emanuel tells Harris that no one else in the presidents camp was authorized to discuss the senate appointment but him (Emanuel), and should exclude Blagojevich's previous discussions with Tom Balanoff SEIU vice president.

Once had an old car that I loved. First one thing then another began going wrong with it, just the little things. A few dollars spent here, a few spent there, but I really wanted that old car to keep running. Eventually, hundreds of dollars and then over a thousand was needed to keep the old girl going. Well, I just lost interest, didn't have the heart or the money so I just got rid of it. After some consideration, living in NYC near public transportation and all I just decided that maybe I didn't need a car at all so I made a decision to withdraw from the highway and not replace that old clunker with anything at all.

Geneva Conventions standard absolute minimum for human daily caloric intake is 1600 calories per day per adult and 1200 to 1400 per child depending on height and activity. Perhaps a happy medium could be put into place of 1600 calories for children under 16 and 1800 for adults. Daily caloric of 2200 to 2600 could be offered to those who are required to work harder and longer days in the public and government services.

The time of food being presented to children by clowns, obsolete kingly figures, and cartoon characters must find it's end on the dust heap of the twentieth century, and the promises of the twenty first century must finally be effectuated. The day of the "Happy Meal" is over. Now is the time to support House Bill HR 2749, the food enhancement and safety act. Although this bill has passed the house, it is stalled in the senate. Senate bill S 510 has the same components of the house bill with an added feature to specifically list what food consumers would and would not be permitted to eat, what may be grown agriculturally, traded, transported ,or shared among the citizenry. Last activity on this bill was last month (May 2010) and appears to be stalled. Proaction is needed if America is going to stop fattening our children and wasting limited ecological and agricultural resources.
