Yesterday I was in Jersey City, New Jersey. I entered the Journal Square Transportation center on JFK Blvd., went down the first escalator, At the base of the escalator I witnessed a familiar sight, groups of intimidating, black uniformed, black helmeted, flack jacket, body armored men holding scary looking automatic - machine gun weapon looking guns. One of this group called me over to a table and told me to put my backpack on the table and asked me if I had any problem with him looking through it. He told me that I could decline but that I would not be able to proceed to my train. I let him go through my bag. All of this in order to get onto a PATH train into Manhattan. This isn't the first time, and I'm not the only one. It happens hundreds a times a day. Where do you live where you don't have to "show your papers" whenever you buy liquor, get on an airplane, cash a check, go to an emergency room, or have a cop ask for your ID, perhaps I'll move there to . Fact is, life is no bowl of cherries and sometimes things happen to piss us off and every now and then if the worse thing that happens in a persons day is that someone asked them for their "papers", perhaps they should consider it not to be such a bad day and consider themselves lucky that they weren't assaulted, robbed, or worse.
